September 23, 1947 - September 17, 2020
Bookan Singh Rai, 72, passed away peacefully on September 17th, 2020 at WCGH with his family by his side.
Born September 23, 1947 in Lehal, Punjab, India, Bookan immigrated to Canada with his family 50 years ago, making Port Alberni his home. He worked many years in the mill industry and retired from the Somass Mill.
For those who knew Bookan, they knew a man of few words, but one of many thoughts, a heart of gold. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather, who was proud of his family and always had difficulty saying no to all the requests that came from his grandchildren.
All he wanted was to see a smile on his family's faces and would give the shirt off his back for those he loved.
He is survived by the family's patriarch Mr. Dilbagh Rai, Bookan's wife Ranjit Rai, son Kim (Meena) Rai and daughters Baljit Kaur, Mena Rai and Ranu (Kevin) Dhillon, as well as his pride and joy, his grandchildren Jaspreet Singh, Haroop Singh, Isha Rai, Veera Rai, Makhan Rai, Kartar Rai, & Maya
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at WCGH. There are funeral restrictions due to COVID-19 and anyone wishing to obtain details can contact Jodhi Rai at 250-730- 2856.
