It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Betty (Elizabeth) Baker (nee Greenfield) on February 3, 2019. Betty was born in Victoria, BC on September 21, 1929 and moved to Nanaimo with her parents Frank and Marion Greenfield as a baby.

Our family lost our Matriarch and there are no words to describe how broken we feel. She was always there

for her family and friends, always told it how she saw it, never minced words and always was there to support you. We will miss you every day. We will live our lives hearing your voice when making a decision, hoping to do right by you as you are looking down on us. Heaven is a better place with you there, and we are better having had you guide us down here. We love you and will cherish our memories of you always.

Betty and Jack, together, were known in Nanaimo for their hard work and dedication to social justice causes. She was awarded a Life Time Membership to the New Democratic Party in recognition of the many decades of hard work. She not only talked the talk but walked the walk when it came to her beliefs.

For 58 years, their home on Churchill Ave was always a welcoming hub for family, friends and neighbours. We all have so many memories of great times shared together.

Betty left behind her loving husband and best friend of over 70 years, Jack Baker. She was predeceased by their son, Bobby, and her brother and sister, Marj and Bill. She is survived by her younger brother Mike in Australia. Missing her, are her 2 daughters Susan (Bob) and Jennifer (Rob); Grandchildren Darrin (Leanna), David (Sarah), Nadine and Chris, Mike, Jennifer, Dana, Dusty. Great Grandchildren, Alix (Auburn), Kyle, Alyssa, Owen, Lotte, Brandon, Luca, Zoe and Isaac; Great Great Grandchildren, Kayden and Zander.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held at Branch #256 Legion on East Wellington Road, Nanaimo, BC, on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
