It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Bernice passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Survived by her husband, Suds, daughters Lisa Sutherland and Jan Forrester (Charlie), grand children Laura (Mat) and Ryan, great grandchildren Conan and Duke, brother Alburne.
Predeceased by parents Elmer and Winnie Betts, brothers Lester, Clayton and Waldo, sisters Myrtle, Muriel and Olga.
Mom grew up on a farm and left home at 16. She wanted to be a nurse but there was no money for her education. She eventually became a fashion buyer for Smallmans department store.
Bernice met Suds on the golf course in Summerside, PEI in 1957 while Suds was stationed there as a flight engineer with the RCAF. They were married in 1958. The family was posted to Comox in 1967 and never left.
Bernice was a longtime member of the Comox golf course and golfed until she was 91. Mom was a better golfer than Dad and he knew it.
Mom and Dad travelled the world and had many dear friends. She had a very active social life and dinner parties with her friends were a true highlight in her life. She was a fabulous cook!
Thank you to the nursing and care staff in 3D at the Comox Valley hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Wainberg for taking such good care of Bernice. There will be a Celebration of life. Date to be announced.
