Beatrice Hilda Mary McLeod (nee Beresford) passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at the age of 95 in Kamloops, BC.
She was born in Clive, Alberta on October 3, 1923 to her parents, Jack and Kathleen Beresford. They
moved to Courtenay, BC about 9 years later. Bea then moved to Nanaimo in her early 20s where
she lived for her remaining years as a well established and highly respected dance teacher in her
own studio on Westwood Rd, the Bea McLeod School of Dance. Her house connected to her studio, she lived there with husband Russ for over 60 years.
After closing her studio in 2006, she still taught tap to her seniors group, the Beama Tappers. In 2011 she moved to Kiwanis Villa in Nanaimo and then to Dufferin. In May of 2018 she was
moved to a care facility in Kamloops.
She is predeceased by her husband, James Russell McLeod, her brother Donovan (Lorraine), and her son, James Douglas McLeod (Lorraine). She leaves behind her late son Doug’s children: Scott McLeod (Bonnie), Sean McLeod (Amarens) and Krista McLeod-Hawkins, Grant Cantin and Rob Cantin; as well as her three surviving children: Kathy Meger (Art) with grandchildren Brad Meger (Jean), Belinda Bratvold (Robert) and Brent Meger (Alissa); Curt McLeod and grandchild David Miller (Stacey); and Bruce McLeod (Gayle) with grandchildren Teresa Coleman (Matt) and Ryan McLeod (Heather). She also leaves behind her 23 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many friends and strong connections from her life of teaching dance.
A service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 1 pm at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Nanaimo.
