November 10, 1940 - November 5, 2021
Barbara Taylor passed away peacefully at home in Courtenay, BC, on the 5th of November, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family and after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Berlin, Germany, on the 10th of November 1940.
Barbara met her husband, Tom, while working at the same military base where he was serving with the Canadian Army in 1963. They were married in 1964 and were posted back to Canada, arriving in Halifax in 1965. After numerous postings across Canada and Europe, they settled in Victoria in 1978 where Barbara was employed with Food Services at the University of Victoria for more than twenty years.
After retiring to the Comox Valley in 2001, she became involved in many activities. Barbara was an excellent cook and led a volunteer cooking team at 888 RCAF Wlng for many years. She also volunteered with the Auxiliary for Comox Valley Healthcare where she so enjoyed working with the wonderful ladies in the Thrift Shop. She also enjoyed Zumba, gardening and flower arranging. Barbara loved life, loved to laugh, and loved animals. She loved most of nature's creatures, and to her families' amusement, even tried to keep worm families together when gardening. Barbara was predeceased by her parents and sister in Germany.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tom, son Adrian (Nicole), grandchildren, Haley and Myles, and her nieces, Susanne and Steffi in Germany.
The family would like to thank the nurses on 3B, Comox Valley Hospital, Dr B Wells in Nanaimo, and Dr. Petrunia and Dr. Biberdorf in Victoria for their excellent care. Special thanks to Heather Edison, Dr. Montgomery and nurse Stacey for their compassion and professionalism. We would also like to thank dear friends and neighbours who have dropped off food and provided other support, which has meant so much at this very difficult time.
At Barbara's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation or to a Charity of your choice will be appreciated.
