October 12, 1933 - December 2, 2019
Born in Huron County, Ontario to a farming family, Barbara excelled at academics, studied piano, and was an avid reader. She was class Valedictorian at the Wingham High School and was on the Dean's Honour List at the University of Western Ontario in 1954 and 1955, graduating in 1956 with an Honours B.A. in French and English. She sang with the university choir and helped organize a concert series.
Barbara worked as a civil servant in Ottawa until she retired in 1975 and moved to Duncan, BC to be with Timothy Trousdell on the farm in Sahtlam, where they lived until 2000. She worked and volunteered in Duncan with the hospice, seniors, library, and symphony societies, belonged to a book club, assisted with the rose garden at Providence Farm, and was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women.
Barbara was married to Tim until he passed away in 2015. She will be remembered as the brains of the family, and a stable, loving presence. She cheerfully fed three generations of hungry Trousdells and trounced us all at games that required anything other than luck.
She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews in the Gaunt family, her brother John, the Rimmer family, and the whole Trousdell clan.
A memorial gathering will be held in the new year. Donations may bemade in her name to the Cowichan Hospice.
