December 23, 1938 - September 30, 2021
It is with profound sadness that his family announces the passing of Arnold Walker, longtime resident of Cumberland, Campbell River, and Black Creek, B.C. on Thursday, September 30th, 2021. Arnie was born in Cumberland on December 23rd, 1938.
Arnie was passionate about everything he did in life, be it baseball, hockey, golf, waterskiing and boating, or camping. Arnie loved sports: playing, coaching, and watching them (especially his beloved Yankees). He spent much time with his kids, coaching, and fostering their love of athletics, as they were growing up.
Travel was a big part of Arnie's life, particularly in the last couple of decades with his wife Janet. Together they visited amazing destinations from Tahiti to Hawaii, Arizona to Australia, and many places in between. Their four cruises were highlights of their travels.
Arnie was very proud of his career in forestry as a faller. He loved to tell stories about his time in the woods and the wonderful men (and colourful characters) he worked alongside. Arnie had an amazing sense of humour. His family will greatly miss his wit and silly antics. Arnie loved music, and he loved to dance.
Children were naturally drawn to Arnie, and he was so good with them. This could be seen most recently through his special bond with his youngest grandson, Caleb.
Arnie was predeceased by his first wife Mary Louise Walker (Chappell), and his parents Isabelle Parkin and Arnold Walker.
Arnie will be deeply missed by his wife and partner of 25 years, Janet Leggatt, his children: Darcy (Julie) Walker, Debbie (Daryl) Conner, and Chad (Sheri) Walker, his stepchildren: Dan (Kim) Richards, Kristina Black (Reilly de Metz), and Kim (Dan) Toonders, his grandchildren: Alison (Jeff), Addison, James, Katy (Gabe), Teagan, Sara, Adam, Cheyanne, Shelby, Shayla, and Caleb, and his great-grandchildren Keigan and Jillyan.
He also leaves behind a daughter of his heart, Christel (Lloyd) Herbin and their children Levi and Avery, as well as many special cousins, close friends, and extended family.
Special thanks to the Courtenay Pharmacy, Dr. Livergant, and the compassionate homecare workers and nurses who supported Arnie in his final days.
