In loving memory ~
It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (nonna), sister and sister-in-law. A long-time resident of Lake Cowichan
Immigrated in 1958 and married Antonio (Tony) (predeceased) on October 25, 1958. Survived by sons Robert, Roy, and Dennis, grandchildren Christina and Nicky, sister Adrianna Bortolussi, and brother-in-law Bruno Nonis
Born Antonietta Maria Bortolussi in San Vito, al Tagliamento P.P. Friuli, Italy. A child of wartime. Went to school but left early as family survival took precedence. She worked as a nanny for a family of 4, and for a textile factory. In Canada a homemaker, office, and private home care. She cared for the local RCMP uniforms in the 70s.
In the early 60s moved to the logging community of Caycuse on Cowichan Lake. In 1968 our family moved into the house dad built in Lake Cowichan. Raised 3 boys and cared for a household and everything in between.
Mom was known for her spectacular rose garden and flowers receiving many compliments. She worried about all of us, taking little time for herself. Sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking and the most amazing cook who downplayed her abilities. Grandkids loved her baking and just the lovely warm safe feeling with the nonni. Friends were always welcomed with food, vino, and chit-chat.
We cannot begin to thank you for what you have done for us. Forever a void in our hearts. Rest in peace mom and reunite with dad. Love you. We wish you to finally put your feet up, grab a glass of vino and chill out, jobs done.
The Nonis family would like to give special thanks to the Cairnsmore Place staff for their warmth and special care.
Dr. Susan Barr for her care through the many years which gave us comfort knowing mom was looked after.
Thanks also to the friends and family that showed her support and caring in her time of need.
There will be no service as per her request.
