In Loving Memory ~
It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather (papa), brother, and friend, Tony Chatwin, on July 26, 2022 at Victoria General Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was predeceased by his brother, Rick.
He will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Shirley; children: Colleen, Steve (Nadine), and Sheri (Jamie); grandchildren: Taylor, Brock, Morgan and Cody; siblings: Brian (Maritza), Susan (Maurice), and David (Terry); sister-in-law Marilyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Tony grew up at Great Central for most of his childhood years. He spent his working life in the logging industry, where he was a faller for forty years at Sproat Lake Division.
In 1960, he married the love of his life, Shirley, and, in 1963, started building the family home at Sproat Lake. Tony loved his family; they were the center of his world.
He was an amazing father, always supporting his children and giving good advice when asked for. His love of current events and a strong knowledge of history kept us all on our toes. Summers on the float with family and friends were a highlight.
There were many family ski trips and, after discovering Mexico, the ski poles were traded for beach chairs in the sand with many family holidays to Mexico.
Tony was always drawn to water. He lived on Sproat Lake; he spent 35 years boating and fishing with family and friends on the canal and Barkley Sound; most holidays were to places on the water.
During his retirement, he continued travelling: to Mexico; winter motorhome trips to Arizona; trips to Eastern Canada; cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. His favourite place was Nuevo Vallarta, where he and Shirley, for fifteen years, rented a condo for the month of November.
Tony was a kind and gentle man. He was wonderful husband to his wife, Shirley, who says "you couldn't have asked for a better husband". After retiring, they were always together - you seldom saw one without the other. He will be forever in our hearts and memories, deeply missed by everyone that loved him and those that had the opportunity to call him a friend.
At Tony's request, there will be no service. Please feel free to raise a glass and cheer him in celebration of his life and the ripple he created for all those around him. Stories, memories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
