On stage, or off, Anne Young was always a class act. She had the unwavering ability to make you feel cared for and celebrated.
Born at Saint Paul's hospital in Vancouver, Anne moved with her family to Campbell River where she went to Elm Street School. Anne loved being the first grad class of Carihi in 1966, and wore yellow and green with pride. She was involved in many clubs and activities, and began acting in grade school.
Anne was also involved in Job's Daughters. Upon leaving Carihi, Anne attended vocational school in Nanaimo and soon after she married Gaye Enns. In her early 20's Anne spent a lot of time acting with the local theatre company and over the years won awards for her craft, that included Best Actor.
Anne became a mother in 1973 and life was never the same for her. Her devotion to Allison was undeniable, and it was here that Anne found her calling. That year, Anne moved to Ocean Falls, but missing home, she insisted they return to Campbell River. The young couple soon purchased Silver King Trailer Park on the spit, which they ran for 5 years. After her divorce, Anne took over Silver King, and ran a successful business while raising a child on her own.
Anne met the love of her life, Don Young, and together they redesigned Silver King into Holiday Shores, and built a beautiful life together. Along with their many friends, Anne and Don hosted golf tournaments, dinner parties, weddings, funerals, birthday parties, 'mock' weddings, horse races, Christmas parties, stags, grad parties, sleepovers, garage sales, fundraisers and theatre rehearsals.
The couple also carried on the Santa and Mrs. Claus tradition for years, and were adored by many families. Anne devoted the last 25 years to helping raise her grandchildren. Anne rarely missed a baseball, lacrosse or a hockey game of Christian or Cassidy's.
Young Theatre was Anne's favourite career move. She had the capacity to care for these young actors, far beyond the stage, and into life and has remained friends with many of them. Anne will also be remembered for Antics Theatre.
She took great joy shining the light on others and giving them room to reach their potential. She was a fantastic director and will be missed by all.
Anne had been a regular on the Seawalk and made many new friends daily. She also enjoyed visiting the dogs at the Spit, and it became the thing she looked forward to most. In 2020, Anne found joy banging pots at 7pm every night. Her gratitude for the frontline workers continued, up to the time she had her fall in December. Anne remained in hospital, where she declined at a fast pace.
It was through her daily visits with her husband and daughter, daily phone calls from Christian, visits from Cassidy, and wishes from friends, that kept Anne's spirits alive during her time there.
In July Anne moved to the care of Evergreen and her last night was spent with Allison in the bed next to her and she passed away peacefully in the morning, surrounded by loved ones. Anne's ability to make everyone laugh, was uncanny. Her personality was huge and her love for people was unmeasurable.
Anne gave her time and energy when you were with her, and made you feel valued and appreciated. Like all things in Anne's life, she showed up and gave her best.
Anne is survived by her devoted husband Don Young, her daughter Allison Enns, her step children Michael (Margot) Young & Lynda Young, Nephew Sterling Grice, grandchildren Christian and Cassidy Enns, Elizabeth, Alexandria and Jack Young, cousins, other family and many friends.
Anne was predeceased by her parents Josephine Martha and Lyle McDonald Higgins, her sister Patricia (Josh) Croisetiere, Stepdaughter Frances Young and Stepson Peter Young (Monique).
A celebration of life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Anne requested that donations be made to the CR Hospital Foundation.
