With tears in our eyes, and much sorrow in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Annie.
Wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many, Annie will be laid to rest on Friday March 5, 2021
Annie was predeceased by her mother and father, and 10 siblings. She is survived by her loving husband Doug, Sisters Maria and Katelin, son Attila (Leah) and daughter Veronica (Scott), stepdaughters Rachel (Cormack) and
Karen (Curtis) and grandchildren Lillian, Jacob, Josie, Connor, Riley and Tyler. She also leaves many special individuals behind, this woman who's compassion and need to nurture drew in so many who were not blood, but family in her eyes, and so very dear to her heart.
Annie was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1946, the youngest of 13 children. She immigrated to Canada in 1973 , where she lived in Winnipeg. Shortly after, her son Attila was born. She then continued west and found herself in BC, where she had her daughter Veronica, and settled her family in Squamish, BC.. There she began a new life. Annie worked in a few kitchens and restaurants before deciding to venture into opening her own establishments.
She opened Pisces, a seafood restaurant, then she met her soon to be husband Doug. They then moved on to open Sealocker, then Mykonos, which became one of the most sought out local eateries, visited by numerous high profile celebrities from all over the world, such as Meg Ryan, Ralph Macchio, and most notably Johnny Cash and June Carter, who left their praises on a menu in ink for the couple. Mykonos is still enquired about to this day, and will always remain an iconic part of Squamish history.
Aniko had a passion for music and dance. She adored performing, singing and dancing. She loved to watch black and white classic movies, listen to Hungarian folk songs, and reveled in anything that explored her Hungarian culture. She was an active member in the Hungarian Society, pushing for the legacy of her European roots for the generations to come. Ani loved to cook, entertain and spend quality time with her many close friends.
She was a woman of impact, and it showed in everything she did. Her family was her world, and she did anything and everything she could to provide a good life for her family, by blood and by choice. The void she leaves is immeasurable, as was the love and dedication she lived by.
Rarely are hearts such wells of unconditional love and acceptance, but our beloved Annie was one of those precious few. We were never prepared to let you go, but thank you for everything you gave so willingly, rest easy knowing we are all better for having had you in our lives.
A mother's heart knows no boundaries.
