November 28, 1966 - April 15, 2025

In loving memory ~

With profound sadness and boundless love, we share the passing of Aman Grewal — a daughter, sister, aunt, nurse, leader, and friend whose life embodied strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.

Born on November 28, 1966, in Duncan, British Columbia, Aman was the beloved daughter of the late Dasondha Singh Grewal and Parkash Kaur Grewal of White Rock, BC, originally of Bilaspur, Hoshiarpur District, Punjab, India. She grew up surrounded by a vibrant and tightly-knit extended family.

Aman's siblings — Iqbal Grewal, Kiran Grewal (John Kageorge, children Jasmine, Rajan, and Jaia), and Barinder Grewal (Pinder Grewal, children Anoop and Nihal) — will remember her as a tireless cheerleader and fierce protector. Her large circle of nieces and nephews, scattered across BC, Canada, the US, and England, were the frequent recipients of her thoughtful calls, spontaneous visits, and joyful celebrations. She made sure everyone — from newborns to elders — felt seen and cherished.

Aman was the heartbeat of every gathering. If there was a celebration, she was there — or more likely, she had planned it. From Grey Cup parties and Vaisaikhi floats to birthdays and major life milestones, Aman's zest for life was unmatched. Her cheering support of the BC Lions, her devotion to supporting youth athletes in her family and community, and her joyful embrace of travel and connection are just glimpses of a life lived fully and generously.

Aman's presence brought people together. In times of crisis, she was often the first at the bedside, offering her strength and comfort. In times of joy, she lit up the room with laughter, warmth, and the inclusive spirit that defined her.

Aman graduated from Cowichan High School in 1984 and earned her nursing certificate from Langara College in 1987. Her commitment to learning never faded, culminating in a Fellowship in Health System Improvement in 2024. She began her nursing journey at Surrey Memorial Hospital, where she discovered her calling in pediatrics and pediatric emergency care. For 37 years, Aman served Fraser Health Authority with passion and excellence, leading to her representing colleagues through the BC Nurses' Union. Her tenure as BCNU President from 2021 to 2023 included navigating the historic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic — a time during which she became a guiding light for nurses and the broader public alike. Aman being the first Indo-Canadian to be elected president of the BCNU is a barrier breaker, opening the door for others.

Her leadership extended beyond titles. Aman was a driving force behind major advocacy efforts, including British Columbia's implementation of Canada's first standard for nurse-to-patient ratios — a testament to her lifelong pursuit of justice and dignity for both patients and nurses.

She leaves behind a legacy of service, celebration, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Services for Aman will be held on April 26 at 2:00 pm at Riverside Funeral Home in Delta for family and friends, followed by a Sahaj Paath Bhog at 4:00 pm at the Khalsa Diwan Society (Ross Street Gurdwara) in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Surrey Hospitals Foundation, in honour of Aman's lifelong commitment to care.

Aman Grewal's light may have dimmed on Earth, but her legacy will shine on — in the lives she saved, the people she uplifted, and the love she gave so freely.

The service will be live streamed. Please send live stream link requests to amanfuneral@gmail.com.
