May 12, 1960 - May 29, 2022
It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Allan George Monks. Al was born in Comox, moving to Campbell River in 1964 with his parents and brothers. He later graduated from Southgate School in 1978. He married wife Leanne in 1981. They were married for 32 years and had 3 children together, Ryan, Jeffrey and Megan.
Al was a butcher by trade, starting his apprenticeship at Herb's Quality Meats in 1975. In 1981, Al began his 28 year career at the Elk Falls Pulp Mill, working there until it closed in 2009. He returned to butchering at various grocery stores until he retired in 2020.
A large part of Al's life was serving as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Campbell River Fire Department from 1988 to 2012. He retired as an acting Lieutenant and became an honorary member for life. He would always say "Once a firefighter, Always a firefighter."
Al had a love for camping, fishing and hunting. He shared many memories with friends and family in the outdoors sharing stories at an open fire, chasing lunkers and monster bucks.
Al is predeceased by his parents George and Sheila Monks and survived by his brothers Graeme (Adrienne) and Mervin, mother of his children Leanne, sons Ryan (Soshana), Jeffrey (Megan), daughter Megan and grandchildren Brady, Scott, Kayla, Ethan, Aden, Carson and Grady.
Dad- May the waters be calm and the fishing lines tight until we fish again. Forever in our hearts and never forgotten.
- Love Ryan, Jeff & Megan
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
