April 15, 1926 - November 21, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Wong. She was born and raised in Armstrong, B.C. to Bak Bong Lee and Lin Fung. She was the oldest daughter and the fourth eldest child from a family of twelve. Alice is predeceased by her parents, brothers James, Bill, Lawrence, Howe, Don, Ben and an infant brother. She is also predeceased by her husband, Gunn (Gunner) Hee Wong, son-in-law Glyn Carless-Jones and grandson, Justin Carless-Jones.
Alice is now reunited with her soulmate Gunner. She is survived by her children, Shirley Low (Wah Fee), Janice Carless-Jones, Rick (Jane), Gerry, Ron (Heather) and Carolyn Early. She is also survived by 14 Grandchildren and 6 Great -Grandchildren and her sisters, Anne Loy, Betty Jung and May Pau and brother Jack.
Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt.
Alice loved to help others and loved her family and friends. She was always there to help whenever anybody needed something. She was rarely still, from helping her parents with her siblings, any tasks on her family farm to being active in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's activities and daily lives.
She was born to the first Chinese family in Armstrong, B.C. who were vegetable farmers. Alice was no stranger to hard work and grit since day one! These are the traits she learned and instilled into her own family. Helping others and her community was in her nature and growing up she canvassed the town to collect money for the Red Cross. She took her passion of helping others by taking a Practical Nursing Course. One fact about her is that anything she wanted to do, she could do it, with ease and perfection.
Alice was an amazing and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Poh-Poh/Yin-Yin (Grandmother) & Bak-Poh (Great-Grandmother). She had a compassionate, warm, and welcoming personality that always made people feel heard and loved. What drew people to her was her effortless yet natural demeanour that was both graceful and elegant.
She shared her love of food with cooking everything from authentic Chinese dishes to Canadian and international cuisines. Her house was ALWAYS full and busy, so naturally entertaining is what brought her joy and fulfillment. She loved hosting dinner parties at home for her friends and family over the years because it meant sharing good food and bringing people together. One of her greatest joys was bringing her friends and family together at the many private Diners' Rendezvous and Mrs. Riches Restaurant parties.
To keep busy when her kids were grown, you could find her working and helping at her husband and family's restaurant, the Diners' Rendezvous as a host/cashier. Later on, you could find her behind the scenes doing administrative work for her family's businesses Mrs. Riches Restaurant and Grandma Walser's Red Pepper Products.
She was an awesome homemaker, baker, cook, party planner, cake decorator etc. Alice enjoyed pottery, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and travel.
Mom you were simply amazing, you will be a hard act to follow. We love you and will miss you forever but carry many loving memories forever in our hearts. We will miss your home cooked meals and getting together.
The family would like to give a special Thank You to all of the doctors that cared for her through the years.
