Alf Helmer Soderholm

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helmer Soderholm on Sept 30, 2022, at the age of 92.
Helmer was born March 9, 1930 in Lapptrask, Finland. He worked on the family farm alongside his father Alfred, mother Martha, and siblings Tauno and Aili.
In 1958, Helmer and his young family immigrated to Canada, first to Thunder Bay, Ont. and then to Campbell River in 1967, where he worked as a millwright at Raven Lumber until his retirement.
He loved to travel and explore new places. Fishing, camping and family get-togethers were a big part of his life.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, solid character, honesty and sense of humour.
Helmer will be lovingly remembered by his children Elisabeth and Ben, and the extended Soderholm family.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna Lisa, in 1982, second wife Norma in 2012, eldest son Leif in 2017, and step-daughter Michele in 2022.
He was Papa to Erin (Chris), Katrina (Pacifique), Rachel and Reba, and great-grandfather to Noah, Wyatt, Naema and Charlotte.
Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Discovery Harbour Care Centre, 3rd floor Sonora, for taking such good care of Helmer in recent years Also a special thanks to Dr. Verapeen.
As per Helmer’s wishes, family and friends are invited to gather at a Celebration of Life on Friday, Oct 21 @ 11 a.m. at Tribute Centre of Elks Falls Crematorium. Viewing from 10 -10:30, before the service.
Interment to follow at Elk Falls Cemetery on Hwy 28 at General Hill, CR. Refreshments and fellowship to follow. Stories and memories are most welcome.
In lieu of flowers, to honour Helmer’s memory, a donation to the Cancer society would be appreciated.Island
