February 4, 1943 - July 19, 2020
It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of Albert (Roy) Matthews. After losing a short battle with cancer Roy passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) on July 19, 2020 at 77 years old.
Roy was born in Vancouver BC on February 4, 1943 and eventually moved to Nanaimo in 1969; where he was employed as a Full-time Professional Firefighter in 1976 retiring in 2000.
After Roy retired he purchased a home in Mesa, AZ and that is where he and Irene would spend their winters playing ball and lots of golf.
Roy is survived by his mother Ethel Patterson and his partner of 17-years Irene Simpson; two sons Shane (Theresa) and Danny (Molly) Matthews; step-son Rick (Paula) Simpson; two step-brothers Jim and Dan Keay; as well as 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will never be forgotten.
Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
