July 14, 1924 - December 30, 2021
Albert (Al) Peters, passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2021, at Golden Grove Care Home, Campbell River, BC at the age of 97.
Al was born in the Mennonite community of Nicolaipol, Jekaterinoslaw, Russia (present day Ukraine) on July 14, 1924. At the age of 2 he immigrated to Canada with his parents and older brother John. The family would settle on a farm in rural Manitoba. At the age of 18, Al joined the Canadian Air Force in 1943. As a career highlight, in 1952, Al would be part of the first flight crew to ferry aircraft to England to establish the presence of the newly formed NATO alliance. Al would go on to serve with the air force for 35 years until his retirement in 1978. He would spend the next 44 years doing what he loved - gardening, golfing and as the proverbial handyman, would often be found with tools in hand, working on one home improvement project or another for family or friends.
Al is predeceased by his wife Clare in 2014, and is survived by his 2 daughters, Linda Pintar (Ed), Nancy Rosse (Ed), 3 grandchildren, Jarrod Pintar, Craig Kerr (Kyrstin) and Cheryl Kerr (Daryn) as well as 4 great- grandchildren, Braydon, Taylor, Madden and Tate. Al is predeceased by his brother John Peters and his sisters Susan Franz and Erna Fast and his brothers-in-laws Ed Franz, Bernie Dueck, John Fast, William Bock (Sheelah) and Joseph Makarowski (Jaqueline) and by his in-laws Allister and Rita Huddleston. He will be missed by his sisters Frieda Dueck and Rita Klassen (Peter).
A very special thanks to Dr. Dry and the amazing staff at Golden Grove Care Home who's caring, and dedication went above and beyond. Our family is forever grateful.
The family will gather at a future date in Fruitvale Memorial Cemetery to bury Dad's ashes next to Clare, his wife of 66 years. Donations may be made to BC Children's Hospital in Al's memory.
