September 23, 1928 - December 11, 2020
Born in Hove, England the youngest of four children, Alan emigrated to Canada in 1954 where he and wife Martha had five children: Tim (Deb), Mary, Chris (Sheryl), Rose Steven (Kerry), and Angelika McLenan (Myron).
In 1966, Alan came west moving the family from Fredericton, NB to Victoria, BC where he worked as a printer at the Times Colonist till his retirement in 1994.
He loved to salmon fish and spent many happy times camping with his children as they were growing up.
In March 2020, due to declining health, Alan moved in with daughter Rose's family in Youbou, BC where he soon embraced his new country lifestyle, loving to sit by the lake in the sun where he made many new friends.
Alan loved his family and Canada which he said was not his country of birth but rather his country of choice and was grateful for all the opportunities it gave him. Alan was predeceased by his infant daughter Mary Claire Francis, loving partner Joy Lane and daughter in law Heather Vaughan.
He will be sadly missed by his five children, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, the Lane family and many friends.
Due to Covid19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
