July 5, 1952 - April 1, 2020
Adrienne's life began in Vancouver BC on the 5th of July, 1952 and came to an end here in Port Alberni on the 1st of April. Her journey here with all of us would last a total of 24,743 days!!!
Adrienne's parents, Armand and Anita met and fell in love in New Brunswick. After WWII, her father was discharged in Vancouver and found employment at a small pulp mill community called Woodfibre which was located on Howe Sound. Adrienne's mother, Anita, came out from Montreal and they married in Vancouver. She had to remain there in Vancouver for approximately two years before housing became available at the mill town. When Adrienne was approximately three years old, her life could have ended when she was caught out on one of the log booms!!!
It was 1957, Adrienne was only five, her older sister Yolande and parents left Woodfibre for Nanaimo. The following year she and her family moved to Port Alberni. Her father was now a journeyman pipe fitter and went to work for MacMIllan Bloedel, Alpulp Division. Her parents began construction of a VLA forever home on Rosewood Street. Shortly after Adrienne turned nine years old, her young brother Paul was born, a "surprise" to her and her family!!! I checked with Paul, he's ok with the "surprise" comment!!!
Adrienne's grade ten picture when it all began for us and now fifty-five years later this relationship has come to an end. It HURTS!!! But now I must be both for my older son Daryl, Robyn and grandsons Everett and Luc and my younger son Alan, Alisha and granddaughter Estella!!!!
Thinking back now when we first met we went for a drive to Parksville with one of Adrienne's friends and on the way back his car spun out and the three of us came very close to getting wet in Cameron Lake!!!
Adrienne was only nineteen years old when I proposed to her and we were married on the 28th of August 1971. Three years later we were pregnant with our first son and Adrienne would walk up to our building lot to watch me dig a BIG HOLE... BIGGER!!! On strike and with only one month left for rent, we moved into our new home without having the final inspection!!! Finishing a home while living in it did have its challenges!!!
Daryl met Robin in Prince George, he was unsure about moving there and Wayne told him to go, "You'll never know what could happen"!!! (Thanks Dad!!!) Both left for Seoul, South Korea having teaching positions at a private school and it was there that their relationship continued to grow!!!
Alisha was only in grade three when she knew that Alan was the one!!! Alan had the lead role as the turtle in a grade six school play called "When the Hippos Crashed the Dance"!!! A number of years later they found each other, were married and later Estella was born. What a little joy and she sure loved her Grandma Adi as did Everett and Luc.!!!
There were many joys in Adrienne's life: Her Bijou, born in Duncan on the 4th of August, 2004, only to lose her on the 30th of April, 2019. She loved her large "Toy Bin" Blue Plastic Patio Pots for growing veggies and lets not forget the many stories about the "Camping Lunatics"!!! Last year we had the Motor Coach out from May to September enjoying Good Friends, Good Food and Good Times!!!
Adrienne reinvented the term "VOLUNTEER" when she became an Ambassador!!! She was a "People Person" from the "Get Go"!!! She loved the Grove, the Bulldogs, the Frances "B" and Community Policing. Adrienne LOVED EVERYONE and EVERYTHING!!! She was Ambassador of Year (2018) for the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce. Adrienne was also passionate about the "E" Division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police!!! She touched everyone's heart including the "Gang up the Hill"!!! She has left her foot prints everywhere including the mill called McLean!!! She was all heart and everyone who knew her was a better person because of it!!! Her untimely passing is a profound loss for her family and to the community!!! Always keep a place in your heart for her!!!
No service at Adrienne's request. In lieu of flowers, please send your love to the Canadian Cancer Society, 3rd Avenue, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 2A5 (Your donations will remain here in PA).
A choice that's close to our family is JDRF.CA (T1D) (Type One Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International).
Predeceased by her parents, Armand and Anita; Adrienne is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, 7 months, and 5 days (Sorry, I couldn't help myself); loving sons Daryl and Alan; bonus daughters Robyn and Alisha, grandchildren Everett, Luc and Estella; sister Yolande; brother Paul; and many siblings-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends!!!
A heart felt thank you to the WCGH Staff, Dr. Brown and Dr. Williams for their Compassionate Care. I will always be indebted to you all!!! Adrienne said to me one day that she was OK indicating that others there (WCGH) were worse off than her!!!
(My apologies for that first obituary, it was a mess and so was I!!!)
Shorts: Adrienne and I talked about making dinners, all she said was "You'll figure it out!!! She said the same thing about doing laundry!!! I'm now going through her pantry to see what's there for me to survive on!!! Sorry Robyn... There's enough tea there to invite Boston!!! Bijou was a Pain....only to me!!! I'm the only person that's still in Jurassic Park!!! (No Cell). Adrienne's senior year book, The Graduate indicated that Adrienne was one of the quieter members of the school and that she just wanted to enjoy life comfortably!!! Remember her love that she always gave!!!
Enjoy Life....Be Kind and Stay Safe. Love to all of you, Wayne.
