A woman was left shocked and upset after she says her vehicle was shot at while she was driving down Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay.

Carol Zielke was driving near Rusted Rake Farm with two passengers and her dog on Monday afternoon when they heard the back passenger window smash.

“My dog was sitting directly in the path of whatever missile hit the window,” Zielke said. “He would have been hit if it had come through but it must have bounced off [the window], it could have been a pellet gun or something.”

The incident caused no injuries, but Zielke said the situation could have been a lot worse.

“We just [drove] around a cyclist and the cyclist could have been hit as well because it happened just as we were passing him,” she said. “I could have hit the cyclist, I could have hit on-coming traffic, somebody could have been badly injured.”

After getting hit, Zielke and her passengers pulled into a gas station to call the police.

“It was very upsetting and the police don’t seem to be interested in pursuing this,” Zielke said. “My passenger called the police and they indicated to him that this is apparently one of several incidents like this that aren’t mysterious shootings of things.”

“Now I’m stuck with the inconvenience of replacing [the window] plus the expense which I can ill afford.”

Oceanside RCMP were unable for comment by press time.
