A damaged vehicle and a ticket are luckily all that resulted after a driver learned firsthand what can happen while accelerating too quickly in a left-hand turn on wet roads.
According to Oak Bay Police Department, the driver lost control of his silver Mazda Miata at Lansdowne Road and Cadboro Bay Road on Feb. 4 around 1 p.m. The car hit and jumped the curb, coming to rest on the sidewalk. The driver and his passenger were not injured. The car was towed and the driver issued a ticket for an improper turn at an intersection.
E-bike rider hits SUV
An electric bike rider suffered leg abrasions after hitting a vehicle Feb. 3 around 10 a.m. The man was riding eastbound on Cadboro Bay Road when he collided with a white Audi SUV traveling in the same direction. The SUV driver was legally turning into a business parking lot near Bee Street when the vehicle was hit and sustained minor damage. The bike rider, who was wearing a helmet, was treated at the scene for lower leg abrasions.

Prohibited driver stopped, vehicle impounded
On Feb. 2 a prohibited driver was discovered behind the wheel of her car. Oak Bay police said the same officer arrested the same 19-year-old driver one month earlier for the same offence. She was charged this time with driving while prohibited and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Check your insurance
A Tesla driver evaded a tow after being stopped by Oak Bay police on Feb. 6.
Police stopped the driver after noticing their decal showed their vehicle insurance had expired in November 2021. The driver was issued a $598 ticket for not having valid insurance. The driver arranged to purchase insurance roadside and a tow truck was not required. Police said several drivers were found operating vehicles without valid insurance over the week.
