West Shore RCMP continue to investigate Langford carjacking

RCMP recover vehicle, still looking for suspect

West Shore RCMP continue to investigate a carjacking after recovering the vehicle that was stolen in Langford last month.

On Mon. Dec. 17 around 9 p.m., RCMP said they received a 911 call of a robbery and vehicle theft.

Police responded to the scene and found a 52-year-old man who told them he was carjacked while sitting idle in a parking lot.

Police said the suspect opened the man’s car door, grabbed him by the shoulders and threw him out of the vehicle and onto the ground. The suspect drove away, nearly running over the man, police said, and the victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries to his wrist, elbow and hip.

On Monday, Dec. 31, Cpl. Chris Dovell with West Shore RCMP said the stolen vehicle has been recovered. He said investigators are still attempting to identify the suspect.

The suspect is a Caucasian man, roughly 30 to 40 years old, who is around five foot seven inches tall and 160 pounds. Police said he was wearing a black jacket, white pants, beige boots and a black toque at the time of the carjacking.

“We encourage the public to be aware of your surroundings and always lock your vehicle while driving or sitting idle,” Dovell said. “Crimes of opportunity are very hard to predict and are, fortunately, very rare.”

Anyone with information about the investigation is being asked to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at victoriacrimestoppers.ca.
