Patrons of Vancouver Island Regional Library will be able to stream thousands of hours of TV programs beginning April 3.

Shows such as Murdoch Mysteries, Poldark, Foyle’s War, Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Midsomer Murders will be available through streaming service Acorn TV. Exclusive programs such as A Place to Call Home, Blandings, the Brokenwood Mysteries and Jack Irish will also be available.

“Acorn TV brings our customers so many excellent choices in every genre,” said Rosemary Bonanno, VIRL executive director, in a press release. “It’s an exciting addition to our collection that is sure to become one of our most popular digital resources. Personally, I’m looking forward to watching The Detectorists, a comedy that has been widely acclaimed by critics and audiences around the world.”

Acorn TV will be accessible to library cardholders as a digital app via Google Play or the Apple Store or through the library website at www.virl.bc.ca, under the Using the Library tab, beginning April 3.

VIRL will be the first library system in Canada to offer Acorn TV.
