The Comox Valley RCMP are asking for the public to help identify a suspect after thousands of dollars of glasses were stolen from a Comox optometry store.
Dr. David Dowe said a suspect entered the VisionWorks Optometry store at 4-2225 Guthrie Road on Oct. 31 and stole approximately $12,000 worth of frames and $3,000 in displays.
“They are name brands which could be sold on Craigslist or Ebay,” he noted, and added he has never experienced a break-in similar to this one in 23 years of practice.
Dowe said the store had security cameras which captured the act in progress.

Monika Terragni, media relations officer with the Comox Valley RCMP, said the suspect entered the business at approximately 6:40 a.m. and stole several racks of glasses in addition to 44 pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses.
“We are looking for witnesses who were in the area during the early morning hours and who may have observed a person or a vehicle around VisonWorks,” she noted.
“Additionally, if anyone was driving through the area around that time and has a dashcam, please check your footage for images of the suspect or associated truck.”
Investigators went to the scene at VisionWorks and gathered evidence. The Integrated Forensic Identification Section and Crime Reduction Unit are both working on the investigation.
