A video of drivers in Victoria heading into oncoming traffic is being used to bring attention to repeated violations on roads that are part of the Johnson Street Bridge.

The video (posted below) is from May 6 and shows two vehicles pulling illegal U-turns - but heading into the wrong lane of traffic back towards downtown Victoria.

The video is backed by the song Dumb Ways to Die, originally created to highlight a rail safety campaign.

The two vehicles then enter the intersection of Johnson and Wharf heading the wrong way, but managing to avoid hitting any other vehicles.

And all to avoid the bridge going up.

“This had to do with the bridge going up and they didn’t want to wait,” tweeted the person behind the JohnsonStBRDG Twitter account, which posted the video.

“Would be chill as hell if @CityOfVictoria gave VicPD footage from the Johnson/Wharf cameras,” the account tweeted along with the video. “It may be the worst yet.”

Despite the video showing illegal driving, some people responded to the tweet by trying to blame cyclists or the fact you can’t make a direct right turn from the intersection.

In April, this same Twitter account posted video (see story link below) of a driver trying to go backwards on this same stretch of road when the bridge started to go up.
