Police are looking to identify a man suspected of stabbing a loss prevention officer with a screwdriver during an attempted theft last week.
Victoria police said a man tried to steal from a business in the 900-block of Yates Street on Jan. 19 around 3 p.m., but a security guard confronted the man. The man then challenged the guard to fight and spat on him, VicPD said.
When the security guard moved to detain the suspect, the man used the screwdriver to stab the security guard, who was wearing a protective vest at the time and avoided serious injury. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
He is described as Caucasian, standing 5’9” with a slim build. He wore a baseball hat with a red brim, a black jacket over a grey hooded sweater and blue jeans at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information can contact VicPD at 250-995-7654, ext. 1, or report anonymously to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
