Victoria policemake over 25 arrests during #VicPDWarrantWednesday

Victoria police officers made 27 arrests as they were nabbing as many people with active warrants as possible during their #VicPDWarrantWednesday enforcement project May 12.

The crimes ranged from smaller ones, such as failing to appear in court and possession of counterfeit money, to more serious infractions like assault with a weapon.

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man at a supportive housing facility in the 800-block of Johnson Street who, among other offences, was wanted possessing and manufacturing an explosive device.

Some of the arrests were related to people wanted for assault, including: a 29-year-old man wanted for assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, a 23-year-old man wanted for two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault, a 25-year-old woman wanted for assault and a 28-year-old man for breach of probation stemming from an assault causing bodily harm.

Police re-arrested a man who had been held in custody Tuesday night before being released Wednesday morning. His initial warrants were for assault, carrying a concealed weapon, uttering threats and breaching release orders. On Wednesday, he was arrested again - while still in VicPD cells – for failing to appear in court and breach of conditions.

Several had to do with damaging property. One man was arrested for the smashing the window of a Government Street business and another had “ripped the tills” off the counter of a Douglas Street gas station. Two people were arrested for damaging vehicles, including woman who smashed a vehicle’s window with a metal baton and a man who smashed a taillight with a shovel.

A 27-year-old was arrested in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue for several warrants, including assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, breach of undertaking and theft.

A 39-year-old man who threatened a woman who was walking her dog and, in a separate incident, randomly punched a youth was also arrested. Another man caught was wanted on two counts of uttering threats.

Other arrests included warrants related to mischief, driving offences and more.
