Work has begun on upgrades to the Victoria International Airport’s lower passenger departure lounge and the Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) is documenting the activity in a series of videos.

In February, the VAA announced it was starting work on its $19.4 million terminal expansion project. Over 27 months, work is being done to expand the passenger lounge, creating dedicated aircraft gates and covered walkways. New washrooms and more space for retail and food services will also be going in.

The VAA is posting time-lapse video to its YouTube page to document the construction, and people can follow along.

The Victoria airport has seen a record increase in passengers through the terminal in 2017 — approximately 1.93 million people. That was a reported 4.2 per cent increase over the previous year. YYJ is expected to top two million passengers this year.

The VAA report that passengers will see work in its various stages of progress and temporary pathways over the next 26 months or so in the lower lounge.
