Nanaimo RCMP released the name of the person killed in yesterday’s shooting as they continue to investigate the crime.

Nanaimo man Troy McKinnon, 34, was shot and killed Saturday morning in the area of Wakesiah Avenue and Jingle Pot Road.

“Investigators are still of the belief the shooting was targeted and numerous officers from various sections of the Nanaimo RCMP are actively investigating the incident,” noted a Nanaimo RCMP press release. “To date, the persons responsible have not been located.”

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said investigators have believed from the start that more than one suspect was involved in the shooting.

Police say forensics officers are still examining the scene. They have concluded their investigation at a nearby location at Elizabeth Street where there was a car fire Saturday. O’Brien said police have established a link between the shooting and the car fire, but won’t reveal how the incidents are connected.
