Victoria police have issued tickets totalling more than $1,000 to a 17-year-old driver as a result of a crash at Clover Point on Saturday night.

Witnesses observed the car crashing through a metal barrier at about 11 p.m. and going down an embankment, after which the two occupants fled from the vehicle. Police arrived to find the car abandoned, but have since identified the young man who was driving.

The driver, who did not have a driver’s license, returned to the scene and was issued several tickets including not having a driver’s license, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and driving without due care and attention.

Over the weekend VicPD tweeted an image of the vehicle resting precariously on the hillside with the hashtag #notaparkingspot and asking the driver to get in touch, because there is “some paperwork for you.”

The other occupant of the vehicle has also been located and was found to be uninjured.
