Comox Fire Rescue firefighters responded to an aggressive fence fire at a residence backing onto the Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy (1400 block of Noel Avenue) in Comox.

“I’m not sure how the fire started, but it was pretty ‘showy’ when we showed up, burning up… about 25 feet high,” said Comox Fire Rescue Chief Gord Schreiner. “Fortunately we had people in the station this morning so we were able to respond in our rapid response vehicle, with about three people, 200 gallons of water and some foam. They were able to knock it down fairly quickly, get it out of the trees.

“Quick, quick fire growth at this time of year, this thing was moving very fast. Even this very small fire could have been a very large fire.”
