A candidates’ meeting tonight is for everyone, but is targeted toward one generation.
The Forum for Millennial Leadership is hosting a debate tonight, Jan. 21, at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, featuring candidates from B.C.’s three major parties.
Sheila Malcolmson of the NDP, Tony Harris of the B.C. Liberals and Michele Ney of the Green Party have indicated they will participate in the debate, according to a press release from FML. B.C. legislature reporter and political science author Richard Zussman will moderate.
“We reject the stereotype of millennials as a generation of entitled whiners who are professionally and politically disengaged,” said FML founder Gavin Dew in a press release. “With 15,000 eligible voters under 40 in Nanaimo, we want to focus attention on the issues and opportunities facing young people and families.”
According to the release, the Forum for Millennial Leadership is non-partisan and “dedicated to strengthening the voice of the largest generation in Canada by helping to engage and elect millennials regardless of party, ideology, or level of government.”
Those wishing to attend are asked to register; tickets are $5 and available at this link. There will also be on-site registration starting at 5 p.m. with the debate starting at 6 p.m.

The Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce is hosting an all-candidates’ meeting on Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Beban Park social centre with a meet and greet at 6 p.m. and a debate at 7:30 p.m.
