Municipalities across B.C. will head to the polls on Oct. 15 to elect new councils and Tofino and Ucluelet have both announced the candidates that will be on their towns’ respective ballots following today’s 4 p.m. nomination deadline.

Ucluelet is set to elect a new mayor as Mayco Noel has decided not to run for re-election and the candidates who have put their name forward to replace him as mayor are: Rachelle Cole, Bruce Faith and Marilyn McEwen.

Along with the mayor’s seat, Ucluelet has four councillor seats, which is the exact number of candidates who have put their names forward to fill them: Shawn Anderson, Jennifer Hoar, Ian Kennington and Mark Maftei.

In Tofino, mayor Dan Law is running for re-election and will run unopposed as no other candidates put their names forward.

Tofino has six councillor seats and the seven candidates who will be on the ballot to fill them are: Al Anderson, John Enns, Duncan McMaster, Ali Sawyer, Sarah Sloman, Tom Stere and Kat Thomas.

The Alberni Clayoquot Regional District has extended the nomination deadline for Electoral Area C (Long Beach) Director to Monday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m. after receiving zero nominations prior to Friday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

Anyone interested in running for the director’s seat is encouraged to visit www.acrd.bc.ca for more information or contact the ACRD’s Chief Election Officer Wendy Thomson at elections@acrd.bc.ca or 250-720-2706.
