Three arrested in Duncan after assault

Three men have been charged for an assault which occurred on Feb. 15 at a Duncan motel.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a disturbance shortly after 5 p.m. that day and discovered the victim of the assault, a 36-year-old Crofton man, near Alexander Street suffering from serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

Investigators determined that the victim had been assaulted at the nearby motel.

One suspect was arrested near the scene, and two more suspects were arrested at a residence in Lake Cowichan within hours of the assault.

Three men have now been charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement in the incident, which police believe was drug related.

James Otis Downey, 22, of Youbou and Manjit Singh Guray 35, of Shawnigan Lake, remain in custody, while Curtis Cleveland Gall, 33, of Duncan, has been released with a court appearance in April.

“Our investigation has determined this incident was targeted and we do not believe there is a risk to the public at this time,” said Cpl. Trevor March of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Street Crime Unit.

“Investigators from detachments within the Valley will continue to focus on identifying and strategically targeting drug trafficking activity and violence that stems from it.”

Police ask that if anyone has witnessed or has further information about this incident to please contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
