Suspect who allegedly stabbed security guard in Ladysmith arrested in Nanaimo

Ladysmith RCMP have arrested a suspect after a security guard was assaulted and stabbed when he checked on an open fire on private forestry land.

Police responded to the area of Cameron Road and Timberlands Road after receiving a report that a security guard had been assaulted in the area.

According to an RCMP press release, an altercation occurred between the suspect and the security guard that resulted in the security guard being assaulted and stabbed.

The victim was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released later the same day.

The suspect was later identified as a 66-year-old man from Nanaimo who was arrested Thursday, March 16. Police have not released the name of the suspect.

“He was not charged,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, RCMP Island District spokesperson. “He was arrested and released on an undertaking.”

The suspect is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Duncan on May 16.
