A suspect threw a propane tank through a glass door in order to steal from a Nanaimo gas station on the weekend.

About $400 worth of cigarettes were taken from the Gas N Go gas station at Turner Road and Uplands Drive on Saturday, Nov. 12, at about 4:30 a.m.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, said the incident was caught on the gas station’s video security system. He said the male suspect approached on foot and was last seen fleeing in the direction of Uplands Drive.

O’Brien said police, alerted by the store’s alarm company, brought a police dog to the scene, but were unable to establish a track and did not find the suspect.

The suspect wore cargo pants and a puffy green jacket with its hood up.

“This was the second time in three days the store was broken into,” O’Brien said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2022-39930.
