Seymour re-elected as chief of Cowichan Tribes

Cowichan Tribes voters decided Friday, Dec. 1 to keep William Charles (Chip) Seymour as chief, giving him 549 votes in the council elections.

He defeated Howard (Howie) George, who received 376 votes for chief, and also Maureen Amy Tommy, who received 237 votes.

There were 1,162 ballots cast for the position of chief, with 21 rejected, according to the official statement published by Cowichan Tribes.

Among the many running for seats on band council, the top three were Howie George (515 votes), Craig P. George (470), and Stuart Pagaduan (456).

Completing the top 12 among councillors were: Albie J. Charlie (400 votes), Darin A. George (398), Stephanie Charlie (347), Christopher Alphonse (340), Debra Toporowski (338), Francine Alphone (333), Calvin Sr. Swustus (322), Andrew George Canute (319), and Dora R. Wilson (319).
