UPDATE: 3 people displaced as blaze destroys home in Errington

Several PQB fire departments respond to incident

Fire destroyed a home on Bowlby Road in Errington on Thursday, Dec. 23.

Several fire departments arrived to battle the blaze, in support of the Errington Volunteer Fire Department.

EVFD Fire Chief Troy Bater said crews were called out at 4:30 p.m., with the fire extinguished at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Bater said Errington, Parksville and Coombs departments responded, and Qualicum Beach firefighters were also called in.

“It was fully involved when we arrived,” said Bater.

He side one person was in the home at the time, but made it out uninjured. The cause remains under investigation, with Bater indicated it did not appear suspicious in nature.

Fire Chief Marc Norris of the Parksville Fire Rescue Department said they responded in assistance with a water tender and aerial apparatus, and a total of six personnel.

Aaron Dawson, emergency program co-ordinator for the City of Parksville, said Emergency Management Oceanside responded to the blaze and supported three people displaced from one unit of the home. They are billeting with friends in Port Alberni and have been supported with food and essentials for 72 hours, said Dawson.
