A motorcyclist is expected to survive following a crash on McKenzie Avenue in Saanich early Tuesday (March 29).

A release from the Saanich Police Department stated the motorcyclist was riding eastbound on McKenzie shortly before 6:30 a.m. when the driver of a vehicle turned left off Arlene Place in front of them. The motorcyclist reportedly collided with the left rear door of the vehicle and was thrown from the bike.

SPD says several commuters stopped to help, including an off-duty first responder.

On-duty first responders arrived on scene about 6:30 a.m. and transported the motorcyclist to Victoria General Hospital. Their injuries are considered serious, but no longer life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation, according to SPD.

Police closed eastbound traffic on McKenzie Avenue between Burnside Road West and Carey Road upon arrival. It remained closed while collision analysts assessed the scene and reopened shortly after noon.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
