A cyclist is recovering in hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Island Highway West near the Alberni Highway.

Oceanside RCMP said they received a report of a vehicle accident involving a cyclist at approximately 8 p.m. on Dec. 14.

“Upon attendance, police found a male with serious injuries and the suspect vehicle, the person responsible, had departed the area,” said Sgt. Stephen Rose. “Right now we are treating it as a hit-and-run.”

Rose said the cyclist has serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white pickup truck with writing on the side and has a red snow plow attached.
