The Campbell River RCMP are actively investigating a recent event of vandalism on the construction site of the new Tlowitsis First Nations Village.
Police were notified of the damage on June 15 and are looking for help from the public in order to identify the people responsible.
Racist graffiti and damaged construction equipment was located the morning of June 15, 2023 on Henry Road. The equipment such as light stands, generators, and excavators had windows and glass smashed. The graffiti left behind was predominantly illegible, but one racist term was clearly prominent.
Damages at the construction site are substantial and will be approximately $25,000 to repair, said Const. Maury Tyre.
At this point, it’s too early in the investigation to determine whether the actions of the vandals were simply a senseless crime of opportunity or whether it was a targeted act.
If any member of the public has any information regarding this incident, contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
