Nanaimo RCMP are asking the public for help in finding a pickup truck driver who allegedly knocked over an 80-year-old woman in a crosswalk and did not remain at the scene.

According to a police press release, the incident occurred April 17 at about 3 p.m. at Selby and Fitzwilliam streets.

The senior told police she was knocked to the ground after being struck by a newer-model white pickup.

“She managed to get back on her feet and at this point, the driver asked her if she was OK to which her response was, ‘No, I’m not OK,’” noted the release.

The truck turned onto Fitzwilliam and carried on up the hill.

“She was not able to provide a further description of the truck or driver but did say there were several people nearby, although none came to her assistance,” noted the release.

The senior’s son drove her to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where she was treated for minor bumps and bruises and released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
