A large police presence around downtown Duncan Monday afternoon had citizens wondering if they were in danger.

Some witnesses report seeing officers with rifles around Craig Street, Trunk Road and near the round building by the court house. Others have confirmed the daycare across the street from the courthouse went on lockdown.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé confirmed Tuesday that police did respond to a report of a possible gun sighting.

“However after extensive patrols and investigation, there was nothing founded or to suggest any evidence of a gun involved,” Bérubé said.
