Oceanside RCMP brought in a police service dog to help apprehend a 32-year-old man on Wednesday (March 17) in Parksville.
Sgt. Stephen Rose told PQB News in an email that at approximately 8:45 a.m., an officer encountered the man, of no fixed address and known to police, near Fairdowne Road in Parksville. Rose stated the patrolling officer told the man he was under arrest for several outstanding warrants.
The man then ran away and police contained the area while a service dog tracked him.

According to Rose, the track lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes before the man was apprehended near Church Road and he was taken into custody without incident.
“This is the same man, in the same area, that was arrested on the same warrants which prompted a police presence and the deployment of a police dog in the Church Road area in recent weeks, as he has repeatedly failed to attend court,” said Rose in an email.
The man was slated to appear before a judge on Wednesday afternoon.
