Prolonged snowy, cold weather in Greater Victoria means residents have the opportunity to enjoy a rare treat at Saanich’s Panama Flats — outdoor skating.
Nature’s rink will remain for the foreseeable future as Environment Canada has issued another snowfall warning, predicting five to 10 centimetres of snow in the evening on Dec. 29.
Incoming winds from the southeast are expected to pick up to 30 km/h as snow rolls in and temperatures will remain a steady -2 C with a wind chill near -9 C.

Rain and flurries are expected to continue into the first few days of the new year, according to Environment Canada.
Saanich crews are on standby and will abide by a prioritized schedule to clear priority roads within 24 hours, said Saanich communications manager Erika Schade.
Crews try to control ice by pre-treating roadways with road salt or an anti-icing brine applied to roads – effective for up to three days in ideal weather conditions.
Residents may continue skating and enjoying the wintry weather before temperatures are back to above 0 C weather patterns.
