Pedestrian hit by car Sunday in North Saanich dies of his injuries

A man died as a result of injuries after being hit by a vehicle in North Saanich on Sunday.

On Dec. 30 North Saanich Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance and Central Saanich Police attended the scene of a single vehicle collision on East Saanich Road.

Police determined the man, a 68-year-old North Saanich resident, was walking in a crosswalk on East Saanich Road at Barrett Drive when he was struck by the vehicle – a silver Volvo station wagon – travelling southbound.

The man was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

In a statement from Sidney/North Saanich RCMP Cpl. Chris Manseau said although the investigation is ongoing, speed and alcohol “are not being considered factors” but police have not ruled out “any criminality.”

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the detachment at 250-656-3931, local police or Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
