Parksville Qualicum Beach experiences heavy snowfall

Environment Canada warns more snow Friday and Saturday

Parksville Qualicum Beach experienced heavy snowfall overnight and on Thursday morning that caught a lot of residents by surprise.

People woke up to see their patios fully covered with snow while some heading to work left late as they had to clear the huge accumulation of snow on their vehicles and shovel their driveways.

School District 69 Qualicum cancelled all classes today (Feb. 23) due to the heavy and continued snow overnight. No buses were running today.

City and town staff have also been busy clearing snow on the main road and priority arteries as well as on pathways and parking lot.

Canada Post issued a “red” delivery service alert for Parksville, meaning they are suspending delivery for the day. Mail service was also suspended for Port Alberni and a “yellow” alert was issued for east Vancouver Island, meaning Canada Post staff will do their best to deliver but delays can be expected.

More snow could be on the way: Environment Canada issued a special report that snow accumulations from 10 to 30 cm can be expected from Friday night to Saturday afternoon down the North and Central Coast, which includes Bella Bella and Rivers Inlet, and Vancouver Island north including Port Hardy, and Port McNeill.
