This year is turning out to be a good one for Brian Moore.

Parksville residents Brian and Carolyn Moore recently beat the odds to win the $500,000 Extra prize from the April 7 Lotto 6/49 draw, according to a release Tuesday (April 17) from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

But the recent win isn’t Brian’s only good news — he beat cancer earlier this year as well.

“It’s been very emotional for me,” Brian said. “I beat cancer this year so this win is just a bonus on top of everything I’m grateful for.”

The Moores, the release reads, are planning to take a trip to Eastern Canada to spend time with their family, and have some fun completing experiences from their bucket list.

“I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights,” said Carolyn. “This win gives us the peace of mind to do the things we really want to do and live life to the fullest.”

The Moores purchased the winning ticket from the Real Canadian Superstore in Nanaimo.
