One person has died in a fire at the River Green Resort in Parksville on Friday, Nov. 11.

Parksville Fire Department responded shortly before 9 p.m. to a report of a structure with smoke coming from it, according to Fire Chief Marc Norris. The building is located at 762 Island Highway E, near the Orange Bridge.

“While we were on route we had a report that there may be someone in the occupancy,” Norris said.

The first crew to arrive found an occupant in a room at the back of the building and took him outside to a grassy area, where they immediately began CPR, Norris said.

BC Ambulance was also on scene and assisted.

“Unfortunately they weren’t able to revive him and he was deceased on the scene,” said Norris.

The fire was contained to one room of the building and there was smoke throughout the structure, according to Norris.

A second crew extinguished the fire within about 10 minutes of arriving on scene.
