Pair arrested after stolen truck gets stuck in Parksville ditch

The pickup truck had been reported stolen from Nanaimo days earlier

The occupants of a stolen truck ran out of luck Monday evening, Nov. 27.

Oceanside RCMP had received a report of a suspicious vehicle that was reportedly stuck in a ditch on Martindale Road in Parksville.

Once on scene, Cpl. Jesse Foreman said in a written release, police discovered a 29-year-old man of no fixed address and a 30-year-old woman from Bowser, and arrested the pair for being in possession of stolen property. The truck, a blue 1998 Ford F150 truck, had been reported stolen days earlier from Nanaimo.

The Bowser woman was released from custody a short time later on a promise to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court. The man, who RCMP described as a chronic prolific offender (with more than 30 criminal convictions) had several outstanding arrest warrants and has been held in custody to attend court on Dec. 1.

According to the news release, a search of the stolen vehicle revealed additional items that were recently stolen. These included items from a vehicle that was broken into in French Creek and a break and entry to a residence in Bowser.

Foreman said further charges against the man are expected.
